What is multilateralism?
au Portail des Nations
Multilateralism refers to coordinated collective action between at least three actors, usually states. It is based on the idea that cooperation serves the common interest and makes it possible to solve problems that no single actor could face alone. At once a political tool, a state of mind and a method of action, it aims to maintain peace, improve the quality of life, defend human rights and respond to complex international crises. Its fundamental principle can be summed up as follows: together we are stronger.
